Research (see below) shows that we can only concentrate whilst listening for around 10-15 minutes at a time!
In my own language learning journey, I’ve experimented with different methods and techniques to find that around 45 minutes is the optimal time for a language learning session.
Language learning lessons are commonly offered as hour long session. However, in my experience of learning 3 foreign languages (so far!), I know the difficulties of concentrating for hour-long lessons and feeling like you haven’t learnt or understood anything for the last half an hour. That is why we’re offering shorter 45 minute sessions, so our students get the most out of their time.
In these lessons, we will focus on reducing my Teacher Talking Time (TTT) as much as possible and encouraging students to communicate as much as possible (STT).

My methodology is based on the Direct Method.
This is a technique of teaching a foreign languages with minimal reference to the students native language. This method of total immersion has been proven to be the most effective means of rapidly developing real language skills. Therefore, in my English classes we will speak only English. In my other language session, we will only speak that given language and so on.
The "direct method" is recognised as one of the best methods for language instruction and currently used around the world. With this method, students quickly develop the ability to think in their new language. This approach is both easy and satisfying. Student progress is quite rapidly. By testing a students current level and acquiring a knowledge of student interests, it is possible to develop lessons specifically tailored to the student. Students progress at their own pace in a relaxed and engaging atmosphere.
With my method, students will begin speaking their new foreign language from the very first lesson (guaranteed), even if they have never spoken a word of their new language before.
One of the most famous advocates of the Direct Method was the German, Charles Berlitz, whose schools and Berlitz Method are world-renowned.
